Resumen

Introduction: Sedation and analgesia consist of the use of non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods with the intention of controlling the activity, and the excitement of the patient, with a decrease in the level of consciousness and pain relief, so that the patient tolerates a certain procedure. Pediatric emergency department provide specialized care to acutely ill children presenting situations of stress and pain, for which the use of sedoanalgesia is necessary.

Objectives: To determine the efficacy, safety and satisfaction of sedation analgesia procedures performed in a specialized pediatric emergency department.

Method: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with prospective data collection, which were obtained through a form developed for sedation analgesia procedures in order to determine efficacy and safety, as well as a survey supported by the Likert scale to health personnel and relatives of patients who required sedation analgesia. to measure overall satisfaction.

Results: 82 sedoanalgesia procedures were performed, the predominant age being infants in 52%, imaging studies being the main indication in 51%, and lumbar puncture in 13%, none presented adverse effects that added morbidity and in the same the staff was very satisfied, and the parents totally satisfied in their majority.

Conclusion: Sedoanalgesia procedures in the emergency can be performed safely, effectively, and painlessly using drugs and trained personnel, with an adequate level of satisfaction among health personnel and families.
